5 days agoHydrated lime is a type of dry powder made from limestone. It is created by adding water to quicklime in order to turn oxides into hydroxides. Combined with water and sand or cement, hydrated lime is most often used to make mortars and plasters. Its chemical name is calcium hydroxide, or Ca (OH) 2.

Limestone is a common type of carbonate sedimentary rock which is the main source of the material lime.It is composed mostly of the minerals calcite and aragonite, which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate (CaCO 3).Limestone forms when these minerals precipitate out of water containing dissolved calcium. This can take place through both biological and nonbiological processes ...

Residual moisture from mortars can also get encapsulated between tile and membranes and cause problems, especially to moisture-sensitive natural and engineered stone tile. The collection of moisture and resulting increase in the alkalinity of the concrete, and not the actual exertion of pressure, is the primary cause of problems in tile assemblies.

But sealers do not last forever and as the sealer slowly degrades, the level of protection will lessen. Also, a sealer does not prevent moisture from entering a paving stone from underneath.
