Morphology: Not observed in crystals to date. Grains of uytenbogaardtite are rarely larger than 100 microns and magnification is necessary to observe the mineral. Comment: Given as P4122 or P1, a= 9.75, c =m9.85, Z=9 by Bideaux (1990). Previously given space group: R-3; originally thought to be tetragonal.

Naturally occurring tellurium has eight isotopes. Four of those isotopes, 122 Te, 124 Te, 125 Te and 126 Te, are stable. The other four, 120 Te, 123 Te, 128 Te and 130 Te, have been observed to be radioactive. [6] [7] The stable isotopes make up only 33.2 % of the naturally occurring tellurium; this is possible due to the long half-lives of the unstable isotopes.

Gold- (silver) telluride minerals in gold deposits are considered refractory ores from a mineral processing perspective, as they are not efficiently leachable in cyanide solutions. Therefore, additional processing steps are required to improve gold recovery when tellurides are present in the ore (e.g., [ 18, 19 ]).

There are two further mineral deposits within the Svecofennian domain that deserve to be mentioned. The Korsnäs Pb-REE deposit in westernmost Finland (Fig. 2.2) was mined from 1961-1972 producing both Pb and REE. It occurs in ~1830 Ma, 20-m-thick carbonatite dike cutting Svecofennian mica gneisses (Isokangas, 1978).

Initially melted metals were those with a low melting point, 232°C tin, 328°C lead, 962°C silver, gold 1064°C, copper 1085°C. Iron 1538°C came much later. All those metals, in pure form like gold or in the form of ores, have a distinct coloration. Unused by prior generations of humans, they would have been easily visible and accessible.
