Many cones of yarn are loaded onto the creel (a stand which holds the yarn), which are then wound off onto the warping mill then onto the warp beam.

Building the Warping Board The frame of the warping board is made with 1″ x 2″ lumber, so the first thing Chris did was rip the 2″ x 4″ into four 1″ x 2″ x 8′ pieces. One 2″ x 4″ was exactly the right size; we were left with one long wood shaving! Each 1″ x 2″ piece was then cut to the appropriate length.

Consider this - If I carve a deep relief design into the surface of a slab (more that half the overall thickness), the surface area will be considerably greater than the flat opposite side. The rate of moisture loss will also be greater. If I cut grooves into the opposite side, the surface area can be closer to equal.

A reputable sawmill (such as Mill Furniture) mills live edge slabs with a thickness of not less than 3 inches. Doing so accounts for the expected changes to occur in the wood during the drying process.

That's hard to answer. I haven't made a warp, yet, that will max it out. It all depends on the size of the yarn you are using, how many ends you make and how many times you spin it.
